I do not perform religious ceremonies, as most of what I do is non-denominational, which gives us a lot of room to make the ceremony meaningful without tying it to a specific faith. If you have a special prayer or other religious comments you'd like me to add, I am happy to do that. I am Jewish myself, and I have woven Jewish customs into many Jewish ceremonies over the years, things like the breaking of the glass, a chuppah, or the seven blessings. If those traditions are important to you, we will include them. If your wedding requires clergy from a specific faith or a fully religious service, I am happy to point you toward someone who can do that well.

You and your fiancé pick up the marriage license from any California county clerk's office before the wedding. You do not have to get it in the county where you are getting married, any California county will do. On your wedding day, I sign the license along with your two witnesses, and afterward I file it with the county for you. You will receive your official marriage certificate from the county a few weeks later.

Yes, and many couples do, but not everyone does. If you want to write your own vows, I will leave space for them in the ceremony and let you know when in the flow they will happen. You can keep them private from each other until the day, or share them with me in advance if you would like a second set of eyes. Either way works.

No, and that is intentional. I keep the ceremony itself a surprise so that you hear it for the first time at the altar, the same moment your guests do. After more than 150 weddings, no couple has ever told me they wished they had read it ahead of time. What I do share in advance is the structure, so you know what is coming and when, and any specific elements you have asked me to include like personal vows, a Jewish custom, or a ring ceremony reading.

I do not typically attend rehearsals. The ceremony itself is the only part I run on the day of, and most couples have a wedding planner or venue coordinator who handles the rehearsal logistics, processional order, where everyone stands, that sort of thing. If your situation is unusual or you would like me there, ask and we can talk through it.

The earlier the better, especially for Saturday weddings between May and October, which book up first. That said, I have stepped in on 24 hours notice when an officiant fell through. If your date is close, ask anyway. I will tell you straight away whether I am available.

Yes. If you have a friend or family member who wants to officiate, I can write your ceremony for them to perform. The fee is the same as a full-service ceremony, since the writing is the same work. We still meet, I still draw the ceremony from our conversation, and you receive the script to share with whoever is performing it.
